Jhanvi and I went on a trip to Costa Rica recently and in addition to being amazed by the nature of the country, we were also charmed with the decorating skills of the maids in our hotels
. Take a look at the pictures below to understand why..
PS : If you haven’t visited Costa Rica yet, put it on the list of places to visit in your lifetime

A follow up on my post, about a South Korean woman’ attempts to get a driving license despite failing it hundreds of times.. She finally passed the exam on the 11/6/2009 in her 950th attempt (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8347164.stm) !!!
Congratulations, Mrs Cha Sa-Soon !!
Reminder for the rest of us to never give up
.
I ran the last (at least for now) half marathon of 2009 this weekend along with Jahnavi and Sri. We ran the Northface Endurance Challenge Half Marathon. The Northface Endurance Challenges are a collection of races which take place in the wilderness across the US throughout the year. The race in Wisconsin, held each October, is the easiest out of them. I ran this race last year and wanted to make this of my annual races.
My official time for the race was 3:01:09 (~31 minutes slower than my time from last year). So this makes it my slowest half marathon ever. How do I continue to keep breaking these slow records?
Well, by not practicing
.
While the run itself was painful (reminder for self.. never ever run a half marathon in the woods without practicing!!), it was fun to have Jahnavi accompany me on her first half marathon. She was a real trooper and kept me company throughout the race. I also took some videos of the race (that again tells you how poorly I prepared for the race
). Here is a snippet from my last mile, I was delusional by this point

Comment from a lady coming out of a portable toilet, during the Northface Endurance Challenge Half Marathon this weekend
You know, it is cold, when you don’t want to come out of the porta-potti!!

It was 36 degrees!!
Another picture from a chain mail
. My friend, Shashi, forwarded this via e-mail. Sarcastic look into communications in the corporate world. Not sure which publication this is from, so apologies in advance if this looks like palgarism. Click on the image to view a larger and legible image.
My friend passed on this picture from a e-mail thread.. I would love to meet the person managing this network
. Imagine having to trace a cable…

If you are ever in the Rochester, NY area and have some time to kill, I highly recommend visiting the nearby Letchworth State Park. It is less than a hours drive from Rochester and is (as the brochure states) “the grand canyon of the east”. It covers an area of ~27K acres and has a varied landscape. You can enjoy a peaceful picnic in the lush green meadows, hike in the forest or get awed by a train running ~100 feet up in the air over a waterfall. The park was not crowded and is not as “commercialized” as the nearby world famous Niagara Falls. Here are some pictures from my recent trip to the park.

Check out the private sail charters offered on Lake Michigan. Unlike the giant cruise boats that you can get onto, at the Navy Pier, these trips offer a more intimate and unique experience. The gaint cruise boats are for the tourists
.
I got to take a trip on one of the sail boats this weekend. The Red Witch, name of the boat we sailed on, is a topsail schooner. Unfortunately, we were not able to raise the sails, since the owners were waiting on an updated “certification” for a new engine they installed this year. But we still got spend a couple of hours on the lake. We brought our own food and drinks, so it was like a picnic on the lake. You can get information on booking tickets with them at http://www.redwitch.com/.
Here are some pictures from the trip
